"Sergeant Thomas Lee Clarkston, Jr. 25, former Liberty resident, died December 21, 2006 as a result of a helicopter accident near Ft. Lewis, WA.
He was born August 2, 1981 in Washington, D.C. to Thomas Lee Clarkston, Sr. and Theresa Ann Lee Clarkston. In 2000, he graduated from Union County High School where he was a member of the football team and played baritone in the school band. Following graduation, he attended Indiana University - Purdue University at Indianapolis and was later employed at NSK. In the Spring of 2002, he joined the U.S. Army and was stationed at Ft. Polk, LA. While home on leave in 2002, he was married at the Liberty Church of Christ to his high school sweetheart, the former Teffiny Schuck whom he had met in the seventh grade. His military service as a crew chief on Blackhawk helicopters with the 4th Squadron, 6th Air Calvary Regiment took him to Iraq where he was scheduled to return. "TJ", as he was known to family and friends, was a positive role model and was respected by his peers. He was was being considered for the prestigious Audie Murphy Club for non-commissioned officers. In his leisure time, he most enjoyed being with his family and was a fan of the Indianapolis Colts. He also enjoyed 4-wheelers, video games, paint ball, and deer hunting.
Survivors include his wife, a 14 month old son: John Thomas Clarkston; his parents of Liberty; a brother: Timothy Clarkston of Liberty; two sisters: Tabitha and Tiarra Clarkston, both of Liberty; his maternal grandmother: Ann Lee Cooper, Connersville; several aunts, uncles, and cousins.
His paternal grandparents: David G. and Ruby Clarkston, and maternal grandfather: Harold R. Lee preceded him in death.
Funeral services will be conducted with full military honors at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 9, at the Union County High School gymnasium. Friends may visit at the UCHS gymnasium on Monday from 4 to 8 p.m. and after 1 p.m. on Tuesday. Memorial contributions may be made to the Thomas Clarkston, Jr. Memorial Fund.
